NIJFON's attorney helped me renew my DACA status (DACA stands for "Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals).
I am a "Dreamer" – a participant in the DACA Program. I was 11 years old when my aunt brought me across the border from Mexico. I went to public schools and graduated from high school. But if it had not been for DACA, my future would have been bleak. Because of DACA, I am able to go to college and get a decent job. I have three children now and it's important to be able to earn a decent wage, alongside of my husband.
Northern Illinois JFON has reached its limit in the number of cases (almost 500 currently) that its single attorney and her legal assistant can handle. JFON helps a variety of cases: DACA, Advice and Counsel, Work Authorization, Escape Violence (Asylum), Family Reunification and Citizenship.
